We had a such a fun summer in the Northeast (minus the humidity and my last semester of school..) We were able to visit DC because Kevin won his school's Optometry bowl (it's basically like Jeopardy but with questions about eyes) so he went on to compete nationally against all the other optometry schools in the US.
White House!
There was a tropical storm down south that made the humidity CRAZY during our trip. It was literally +40C and 90% humidity. So here's a picture of how much Kev was swearing during our walks.
Khachapuri (aka Georgian cheese boat) it was pretty amazing
Here are some pictures of the trees in the Northeast! So gorgeous!
End of July: I finally finished my last semester of undergrad! It was pretty hard moving and trying to have fun while having to learn all that anatomy and physiology, but I somehow did it 😉
Celebrating my freedom exploring more of Philly and getting some water ice.
My mom and Aunt Barb came to visit for a week at the beginning of August. Here we are in Cape May. All of these East Coast beach houses were so amazing.
Elfreth's Alley: the oldest continually inhabited residential street in the US.
Philly Skyline
Mom and I at the city hall lookout
New York Trip #2 aka the trip where I learned I don't like rain
Flatiron building
Central Park
Authentically the only way to stay dry as it was raining like crazy. My mom looked like the hunchback of Norte Dame with her backpack and rain poncho haha!
Empire State building views and #smog
Statue of Liberty
Brooklyn Bridge
The High Line. It used to be an old railway line, but when it got shut down the city turned it into a little walkway park.
The old railway tracks
More Philly exploring:
Rocky steps. Aka the back entrance of the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
After I finished school I wanted to go visit Canada one last time before I started working.
I will always remember these lovely visits with my Grandma Haws.
Kevin's parents and sister came for a visit in the middle of August! Kevin's brother and his family live outside of Philly, so it worked out that we were able to spend some time together during Kevin's week off before we moved to New Hampshire.
New York #3 with Janet, Dave, and Julie.
Times Square.
High key tourist on the subway.
East Island head aka Dum Dum from Night at the Museum in the Museum of Natural History.
Free ferry to Staten Island = free Statue of Liberty views!
Back to Philly: statue of Rocky near the steps
Liberty Bell
After the Drews flew home we went out to Amish country and had THE BEST FOOD I'VE EVER TASTED. I'm such a homestyle comfort food lover, so this was heaven.
Literally, the best apple crumble I've had.
New York #4 aka the day it wasn't hot so we froze because we didn't bring sweaters.
After we went to the Trade Towers memorial we hit up Sam's Falafel stand in Zuccotti Park. Best Falafel's I've had! I think good food is my love language 😂
Coney Island: it took a while to get here, but I loved the carnival beach vibes.
We finished off our day at the Met. Gotta get that Met steps picture.
And that was the last part of our 2017 summer. The Northeast has so much to do and see, I'm glad we were able to live here for a few months!
After our stop in New York we drove up to our next home: New Hampshire!
